CWS Door Installation: The Pinecrest Owner’s Guide

CWS door installation in Pinecrest typically runs $1,800-$4,200 for a standard single entry unit, depending on impact rating, frame condition, and whether the opening needs structural reframing. We stock CWS-compatible frames, sills, and hardware for same-day starts on most Series 400 and Series 600 residential doors, and we carry PGT and CGI equivalents when the opening calls for a different performance tier. Most Pinecrest homeowners discover a CWS door is failing when the sweep gaps start passing water during summer storms, the multipoint latch no longer draws the slab tight, or they notice daylight between the frame and the stile that wasn’t there last season.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS builds two residential door lines we see regularly in Pinecrest: the Series 400 (non-impact, thermally broken aluminum) and the Series 600 (HVHZ impact-rated, Miami-Dade approved). The Series 400 uses a 4-9/16″ jamb depth with a composite sill cap; the Series 600 steps to a 6-9/16″ jamb and a reinforced aluminum sill with integral sub-sill drainage. Both series ship with a vinyl bulb sweep and a three-point multipoint lock, but the Series 600 adds a deadbolt-ready steel stile and laminated glass.

To identify your unit, open the door and check the hinge jamb for a CWS label with the model prefix (CWS-4xx or CWS-6xx) and the NFRC rating sticker. If the label is painted over, measure the jamb depth and the slab thickness: 1-3/4″ slab with a 4-9/16″ jamb points to Series 400; 2-1/4″ slab with a 6-9/16″ jamb points to Series 600. The Series 600 deadbolt bore is 2-3/4″ backset, not the standard 2-3/8″, which matters if you’re sourcing replacement hardware. We install both OEM CWS components and verified aftermarket equivalents from Truth Hardware and Hoppe, specified by what the opening requires, not by what is in stock.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing
  • Water intrusion at the sill during heavy rain. The composite sill cap on Series 400 units cracks after 6-10 years of UV and chlorine exposure in Pinecrest’s pool-adjacent homes. Once the cap splits, water tracks under the threshold and into the subfloor. We see this most often on north-facing entries where the sill never fully dries.
  • Difficulty latching or the multipoint no longer engaging all three points. The CWS multipoint uses a split-spindle design that wears where the latch meets the keep. In Pinecrest’s humidity, the zinc coating on older keeps corrodes, increasing friction until the center point drags.
  • Visible gap between the door slab and the frame, or light passing through the weatherstrip. The vinyl bulb sweep compresses permanently after roughly 8 years; in Florida heat, the compression set happens faster. A 1/8″ gap at the strike side is enough to lose R-value and let insects through.
  • The door “sticks” seasonally or the frame has shifted in the opening. Pinecrest’s coral-rock substrate and seasonal moisture swings move block walls. If the CWS frame was shimmed too tightly without expansion room, the aluminum transfers stress to the hinges and the slab binds.
  • Condensation between the glass panes on a dual-pane unit. This indicates seal failure, not installation failure, but the CWS glazing bead must be removed correctly to avoid cracking the laminated lite. The Series 600 uses a snap-in vinyl bead; the Series 400 uses a screw-applied aluminum stop.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Pinecrest
Standard CWS Series 400 single entry, installed $1,800 - $2,800
CWS Series 600 impact-rated single entry, installed $2,800 - $4,200
Frame-only replacement (reusing existing slab) $950 - $1,400
Multipoint lock hardware swap $340 - $580
Sill cap / threshold replacement $280 - $450

What drives the range: impact rating (Series 600 carries Miami-Dade HVHZ certification and laminated glass), whether the block opening needs reframing (common in Pinecrest homes built 1960-1985), and the finish grade of hardware. Every quote we write includes the measured survey you keep, the written scope with line-item pricing, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise stamped under the Haven Standard. The price on the page is the price at completion; Haven Clause 1 means the measurement and the quote are the same document. We pull permits when required by Pinecrest building code and pass inspection before final invoice.

There are two things a homeowner can safely check: the door label for model identification and the sill cap for visible cracking. Both require no tools and carry no risk. Everything else, we recommend against. Removing a CWS Series 600 impact door without temporary bracing compromises the opening’s wind-load rating; reframing a block opening without understanding Pinecrest’s coral-rock anchoring requirements leads to fastener pullout. The multipoint lock is under spring tension, and the laminated glass in impact units weighs 8-12 pounds per square foot. A dropped slab or shattered lite is an expensive mistake.

We carry Series 400 and 600 frames, sills, and hardware on our trucks, and we background-check and license-number every technician before arrival under Haven Clause 3.
